2007 Ford Airstream concept
Ford and trailer maker Airstream have unveiled a new concept car that combines aspects of "American aircraft, spacecraft and the streamlined shape of Airstream trailers."
Despite the futuristic look and interior feel, Ford has chosen to use the model to show off its HySeries Drive plug-in Hydrogen fuel cell engine. The technology is described as "more than a concept" stating that the powertain is already in use by the Ford Edge and that the HySeries engine is expected to deliver 41 miles per gallon combined city/highway equivalent fuel economy. The fuel cell itself was developed by Ford's partner, Ballard.
While in a pure electric mode, the Airstream can travel 25 miles before the fuel cell begins operating to recharge the vehicle’s 336-volt lithium-ion battery pack.
