Sebastien Loeb wins WRC title.....again!

Sebastien Loeb today clinched his fourth consecutive WRC driver's title at the Wales Rally GB. Loeb was able to drive a fairly comfortable rally knowing that he already had a lead in the standings over Marcus Gronholm. Anything but a complete disaster for the super-consistent Loeb would have meant the title was his. His nearest rival Gronholm wasn't able to sign off his rallying career in style by clinching a third driver's title, but will go off into retirement remembered as one of the great drivers of the modern WRC era. The big question now is with Gronholm gone, who will be able to step up to the plate and challenge Loeb in the future? The only driver still around with experience of winning the title is Petter Solberg, but he hasn't been a major player for a while. Can he regain his championship winning form? There are two heirs to Gronholm's throne from Finland, Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala; Hirvonen is quick but prone to silly mistakes while Latvala clearly has the potential but is still very young. Dani Sordo is another young gun with huge potential but has up until now been living in the shadows of Loeb at Citroen. It seems unlikely that he'll get the chance to challenge Loeb while at the same team. All the signs point toward there being Loeb dominance for several years to come at this rate. It's an incredible testament to the guys immense talent, but can't help thinking it's a little bit dull/predictable...
